 Course Description:

Facilitation of all sorts of groups—be they task-oriented, dialogue groups, homogeneous groups, multicultural and national groups—can be done via by one facilitator and sometimes by two. Cofacilitation is fundamentally different from facilitating solo at all stages. Cofacilitation has particular importance when the program’s aim is to promote equality and freedom and understand democratic processes. It requires different preparation, highlighting group processes in specific ways and raising various challenges on the part of the cofacilitators and in their work with the group.

This course provides an opportunity for many “Betzavta” facilitators who engage in cofacilitation to hone those skills as well as for facilitators who are new to the award-winning experiential method.

The course will demonstrate in practice Jewish-Arab cofacilitation, using the “Betzavta” method that will be taught.

JOIN US TO EXPLORE THESE TOPICS:

  1. Preparing to facilitate: When is it right to cofacilitate? With whom should you cofacilitate? Why?
  2. Division of duties between facilitators
  3. Parallel processes between cofacilitators and the relationships among group members.
  4. Power relations and equality in cofacilitation and in the group.
  5. What or who do the facilitators represent? How should that representation be expressed?
  6. How to deal with disputes between facilitators in real time, before and after.

Facilitators: The course will be taught using “Betzavta”, the facilitation method that will be taught by Mr. Saber Rabi, Director of Educational Programs at the Adam Institute (Palestinian man), and Dr. Uki Maroshek-Klarman, Executive Director (a Jewish woman). This duo has cofacilitated for decades and published several publications together, including “There is No Single Democracy” and educational materials/pamphlets on democracy education in Hebrew, Arabic, German, English and Polish.

The course will be taught via interactive workshops, employing the Adam Institute’s signature “Betzavta – Adam Institute’s Facilitation Method“. The award-winning “Betzavta” method is rooted in an empirical approach to civic education, interpersonal communication and conflict resolution. This map shows some organizations globally that have used this approach. Testimonials are available here.
